Be focused! It is important, certainly,
that your research have breadth. If you
are just starting out, breadth will get
you better job offers, or present you
with a greater range of areas in which
to obtain research funding, but proven
depth is more likely to get you fame. If
you are a young academician, both
will help you get tenure. It is important
that there be at least one area
where you have real depth, although it
may take a long time to develop.

Advice to Young Researchers
this month’s NUMERO UNO job interview TIP:
Make a great first impression. Seem obvious, it is. Heard stories from interviewers about people turning up to interviews in trackies, or stinking of cigarette smoke, or late! We all have so this week we state the obvious; make a great impression. Clothes clean and pressed and smelling fresh; and the same goes for you. Be on time. Make like a girl guide and be prepared. Bring a current CV, a portfolio if you have one and a list of current references or reference letters. Also, any evidence of citizenship, diplomas, certificates or other legal stuff the employer may need. You want your first impression to last.

U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics
Interesting Statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor say that the job outlook for Operations Researchers is great. This occupation is projected to grow much faster than average. This bodes particularly well for Individuals with a master's or Ph.D. degree in operations research or management science with excellent job opportunities forecast in these specialties.
Computer advancements have made it faster and cheaper for analysts to solve problems enabling more firms to employ or consult with analysts. Additionally, more organizations are faced with the pressure of growing international competition and must work to maximize organizational efficiency. As a result, businesses will increasingly rely on operations research analysts to optimize profits by improving productivity and reducing costs.
“Jobs for operations research analysts exist in almost every industry because of the diversity of applications for their work. As businesses and government agencies continue to contract out jobs to cut costs, opportunities for operations research analysts will be best in management, scientific, and technical consulting firms. The relatively small pool of qualified candidates will result in excellent opportunities for those with a master’s or Ph.D. degree in operations research or management science. Operations research is not a particularly well-known field, which means there are fewer applicants competing for each job.” (Department of Labor Statistics)

Basic Function:
Provide project management to payment and delivery reform activities and undertake independent research on related topics for the Engelberg Center on Healthcare Reform (ECHR). Write papers, policy briefs, and articles detailing findings; participate in the presentation of research findings both internally and externally.
